Originally from Columbia, Maryland, Christine Proctor graduated with a Bachelor's degree in forestry and wildlife from Virginia Tech, where she was a member of the Student Chapter of TWS. After graduation, Christine taught high school biology in Baltimore City for two years before taking a position with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MD DNR) as a forester. During her time with MD DNR, she worked as part of a team to develop a long-term adaptive forest management plan that focused on improving ecosystem functions such as water quality and quantity. She went on to earn a Master’s degree in biology from Towson University and is currently finishing up her Ph.D. in wildlife conservation from Virginia Tech. Her dissertation research is focused on identifying ways to mitigate road impacts on red wolves in North Carolina. During the course of her career, Christine has had the opportunity to work on projects focusing on a variety of species including black bears, grasshopper sparrows, Asian elephants, Florida bog frogs and red wolves. During this internship, Christine hopes to learn about working in the field of wildlife policy and whether she would like to make a career out of it, continue on in science, or maybe pursue both. She is currently the Graduate Student Liaison for the Virginia Tech Student Chapter of TWS, a position she has held since fall of 2011.
