2010 Award Winners

TWS was proud to honor many distinguished members during the Annual Conference. Our congratulations to this year’s award winners.

Douglas Johnson

Aldo Leopold Award

The Wildlife Society bestowed the Aldo Leopold Award on Douglas H. Johnson in recognition of his contributions as a scientist, educator, and visionary leader in the field of wildlife research and management. Johnson received the Society’s highest award on October 3, during the Annual Conference in Snowbird, Utah.

Johnson has devoted his career to the application of statistics to wildlife conservation and has spent more than four decades working for the Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center, where he now serves as research statistician and senior scientist.

He has been a long-time active member of TWS, has chaired the Biometrics Working Group and twice received TWS Publication of the Year Awards for papers in The Journal of Wildlife Management.

He also received the prestigious Meritorious Service Award in 2000 and the Distinguished Service Award in 2006 from the U.S. Department of the Interior.
